And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Recorded by a USAF P 47D pilot : a Luftwaffe pilot escaping his Fw 190.
I went and looked that up and found the USAF came into being in 1947. I was aware of a change but thought it was a bit earlier so thanks, at worst I've added something for a quiz night.
Sorry. Hate to be "THAT guy." I only know because my dad flew combat in WWII with the USAAF and with the USAF during Korea. You're right though, good pocket trivia.
I bet our Jug pilot didn't circle back and machinegun him under silk.... I also bet, regardless of his behavior/habits on he eastern front, that German didn't pull that shit on Americans/Brits. There was honor and mutual respect when it wasn't a dirty commie on the other end.
