And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Saw one of those doing a low altitude demo at a local airshow. Not fast but it can damn near do 90 degree turns in any direction with the power of those giant motors. The mini gun its built around startling in action too. Think a rope of bullets headed the bad guys way.
30mm depleted uranium rounds are what make that gun so deadly as they can penetrate tank armor. The were The A-10 was intender for Vietnam but the truce was called before it was ready. The US Airforce continued n with the Douglas Skyraider and it's 20mm canons. Both were great aircraft and loved by the troops on the ground.
Not really all that big today, the 777's engines produce 114,000lbs of thrust (with a new 134,000lb version in the pipeline) while the TF34 produces around 9,000lbs. The amazing thing about that engine is its reliability, I remember reading that the civilian CF34 averaged 1 in-flight failure every 1.3 million flight-hours. The engines on the CL604s I scheduled maintenance for had never been removed in 20 years. Al_in_Ottawa
Not as big as they look. Fastest engine change I ever did on one was about an hour and a half, cowls open to green run. They’re only held on by 2 bolts up front and a fitting we called a coke bottle for obvious reasons in the back set in a clamp held shut by 4 5/16” bolts. There are 4 cannon plugs, a bleed air line coupling, a fuel line, 2 hyd quick disconnect fittings, fire detector loop connectors, throttle cable disconnect & 5 small bolts to hold the short service pylon in place up on top. Whole thing drops out the bottom onto a trailer using 2 B-17 bomb lift crank winches. 4 person crew: 2 up top, 2 underneath to line stuff up. Nuthin to it.

Turbo fans that power the flying platform for the GAU-8.
