  3. Surgeons of the time before anesthesia worked to be as fast as possible, taking off a limb in a couple minutes.

    I once read an old medical book that was a compilation of Union Army medical cases from the Civil War. it was basically amputation after amputation after amputation. Grim stuff.

    1. I was born and raised in Gettysburg and think I read that same book. It was indeed gruesome in the descriptions of surgery of the time. shivver

  4. Recall amputation scenes from GWTW and Horse Soldiers and a little bit in reading 30-Seconds Over Tokyo. Ugh!
