  3. Bell X1B I think and it was actually rocket powered. Seem to recall them dropping it from a B52 then lighting off. Might have been Yeager that flew it. I was a kid back then but remember the TV videos.

    1. The name on the nose is Glamorous Glennis, so if this one isn’t General Yeager’s ride, then they made it look like it.

  4. Yes it was rocket powered and Yeager (GOAT) flew it and was the first to break the sound barrier, but other men whose balls clanked when they walked also flew it.

  8. Built by Bell Aircraft in Niagara, NY. There is one hanging in the Calspan building at Niagara Falls Airport. Sat below it for after flight test reviews many times.
