And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Vauxhall D-Type, built between 1912 and 1922. The knob on the brass quadrant in the center of the steering wheel is for either the ignition timing or the mixture. Al_in_Ottawa
I have read Classic & Sports Car magazine for the past 15 years or more. They occasionally have articles on veteran cars (cars used by the British army in WW1). Cars built in that era have interesting controls. Many, such as the Model T, had a hand throttle and manual spark advance, some had a pump on the dash panel to pump air into the gas tank to force it to the carburetor. Here's a video of Vauxhall's successor to the D-Type. At the 30 second mark you can see the instrument panel which is very similar.

Very much appreciate the reference. And a very cool panel.
DeleteHow did you come to know about it?

What's the steering wheel rim made of? Bakelite was invented in 1907.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a dark wood to me.
