And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
F-104 Starfighter. Beautiful plane. As far as I know, it only brought down one aircraft, the XB70. Snark aside, I saw one in Iwakuni, flown by the JSDF. It was tiny compared to the F-4 but it looks fast just sitting on the ramp.
Brake release to 35,000 ft., 90 seconds. 450 Knots by the end of the runway. You can slice an apple in half on the leading edge of the wings which are only 7 feet long. Easily made Mach 2 plus. With skill can be zoomed to over 100,000 feet. A great ride.
Afterburner suggest SR71. Tail and nose do not.

ReplyDeletem9777 A Kelly Johnson design. The F104 was beautiful and super fast.
ReplyDeleteU-2 was derived from the basic design of the F-104's fuselage. So I've been told...
DeleteUh...no.
DeleteAs alike as aardvarks and girafes.

ReplyDeleteAnd without skill, can go to 104,000' and then come back down to ground level in about 90 seconds of flat spinning. ;)
