And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Down here, they have "pear burners". When it gets really dry, ranchers will use a big propane torch to burn the spikes off prickly pear cactus. Cows will come running when they hear the torch light off.
When the prickly pear fruit (tunas) get ripe, my sister in law will pick a bushel or so. You can use the same method to burn the whisker stickers off them. We make syrup and jelly out of it. Decent tasting stuff, too.
Blackwell Pear Burners. My high school metal trades teacher was the son of the guy who invented the thing. Last time I checked there was a Blackwell Pear Burner in The Bob Bullock Museum in Austin. Burn the needles off and cattle will eat prickly pear like it was candy.
So, if I drink a lot of water before stepping into a blaze I'll live, right?
