And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
A little period style 283 all dressed up for reliability (HEI, FI, etc) connected to a 5 speed manual would make for a surprising little street package, odd seating position be damned.
Dad had a new one in '65. First street legal thing I ever drove. 3 on a Tree and I was 9 years old. Dad had me drive from outside Abilene to outside Brownwood. Maybe 65 miles. He pretended to sleep in the passenger seat to build my confidence. How I miss him.
Were the shifter bushings shot to shit so you had to now n again get out at a green light n jiggle the shifter linkage so you could proceed? My '66 nova 3 on the tree was thataway, 'til I shoved a 327/muncie/vertigate in to unfuck the drivetrain. Whole new set of problems afterwards but the bitch shifted when I told her to. :)
I had an early 60's Chevy van with the straight 6 between the front seats, I bought it from an appliance store on Vashon Island WA in 1976 when I was stationed at USCG Light Station Point Robinson. Those were the days...
If this van's a rockin...
