  2. I believe I've driven past a number of scenes like this in the South Dakota of my youth, I do miss it.

  4. There's a family-owned gun store in North Dakota in a setting just like this. They had a Ruger I was interested in buying so I did some research. They're in their third generation of business and the store is completely modern, with hundreds of really nice guns for sale. When I looked their location up on Google Earth, the store was on a corner lot and was completely surrounded by corn fields with the nearest building a mile away in any direction. The store and location were so intriguing it was almost tempting to drive 1500 miles to check it out.

I never did buy that Ruger. But the vicarious trip to North Dakota was worth the trouble.

  6. I have a photo buried somewhere of the 2-story BOQ at GFAFB 13 miles west of Grand Forks, ND during the winter of '67-68. It was built with the long axis running east-west; the predominant winds, of course, coming from 350. The photo shows the snow (very dry: cannot be compacted into snowballs) piled up along the north face to the top of the building covering all windows on the north face and extending back about 50 feet.
I don't want to discuss what we had to do for (and to) the cars in the open parking lot from about October thru April.

  7. That don't look like very much snow. Were inches away from breaking the record of 101 inches set in 96-97. The forecast is for 6-12 inches Tuesday and Wednesday with wind gusts to 49 mph. Weather is a contact sport!
