And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
A lot of the time, big landslips happen slow, as creep. Happens a lot in tropical and mountainous countries. I worked one place once where a house literally rode down a slipping hill over the space of a couple of years, staying intact and inhabited. The trees stayed mostly intact, too. It was underdeveloped, so they just had a gravity water tank, but it kept upright. The through road kept getting repaired, and every time I passed by, the house was a little further down.
