Bogsidebunny sent me this picture with the following description.

Here's my father (pilot) and a friend at Sussex, NJ airport with his puddle-jumper. Circa 1940.

Neither he nor I know what kind of airplane this is.  Anybody know?

  1. The Naval Aircraft Factory N3N was an American tandem-seat, open cockpit, primary training biplane aircraft built by the Naval Aircraft Factory (NAF) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the 1930s.

  2. Thanks Anon,

I've been pondering the identity for more than 60 years. I appreciate the information.

    2. A.K.A. "Yellow Peril." (http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/history-up-close/n3n-original-yellow-peril/) My Dad learned to fly these at the Naval Academy in 1950ish, one of the last to do so. He liked them okay but preferred jets like the T-33.
