That little jagged peninsula on the far left top corner. Wonder what's there?

  1. Cape Range National Park for the most part.

Perth is in the lower left on the coast. Darwin is in the center of the Northern region on the coast.

  2. There is a reason why most of it is empty.

  3. That tip is called the North West Cape, and has a town known as Exmouth. There's a US Navy base there where my Dad used to arrive when he flew to Western Australia on Navy aircraft "space available" (which he could do, as a retired USN Commander.)

When he got there he had to wait at a local hotel (the Potshot Resort, aka the Pub) until another plane was flying down to Perth, where I'd meet him. I lived in & around Perth for 30 years.

He reckoned the beer was great, the weather way too hot, and he sure got tired of watching cricket on the TV in Exmouth, as he never understood the game (neither do I, but anything that involves maiden overs has my approval.)

    1. That's the spot! Seems pleasantly remote, but now that I've had a look, probably too hot for my liking. The search continues….

  4. CW - if you were referring to the spot just below the island at the left top of the map that shows a bit of population, that's Darwin. Exmouth is on the little "hook" about 9:30 on the continent and is an access point for Nigaloo reef, a great whale shark hot spot. It's about 1250 km north of Perth.

    1. Yep, Exmouth. Seems like a wonderfully remotes spot.

    2. Yes, it's remote all right! It's the place to be, if you want to be far, far away from anyplace else and don't want to do anything but fish.

Shrimp are big & juicy there too, as in "throw another shrimp on the barbie!"
