And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Made a loaf of Shepherd's Bread this morning
Turned out ok. Doug the Wild Yeast did his job. I let it over proof a bit, though, so I'll need to watch that more carefully next time.
I haven't made any lately as Dad was unable to eat it, and now there is just me... wonder if the neighbors would notice a small piece missing from a loaf...
Once upon a time I was pretty good at making sourdough- (I was in Australia, so it was make it myself or go without) and had a really good starter that had developed over several years. (Never gave it a name, tho- you're ahead of me on that!)
I entered a loaf into the Armadale Shire Fair (in the country, in Western Australia) and was delighted to find that I'd won 3rd Prize!
Well, at least I was delighted until I discovered that the judges hadn't tasted it. The award was only for looks! How disappointing.
Many years later, a bakery opened in a nearby shopping centre, and they had Sourdough! I bought 2 loaves (and it wasn't bad... but not nearly as good as what I made.) When I went back a week later to get some more, I was told that "no one wants sour bread, so we don't make it any more." Still SMH over that one! I guess it was rejected just because of its name- and Aussies can be extremely literal at times!
Looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt is, especially with warm butter. Also, toasted in the morning with coffee.

I named mine because if you keep it fed, it will last for generations - a member of the family!
