And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Interesting
The Navy hasn't done too well with reducing crew numbers on the LCS. I hope the apply those lessons to this supercarrier.
Further, automation is great, but can it sustain battle damage and still function?
Maintenance on ships at sea while at sea need to be carried out on warships (which are different than civilian cargo ships in so many ways). People need to chip paint and re-paint. People need to do all of those mundane tasks - which is why there are boatswains mates. The "new image" of a navy without adequate crew means that work won't get gone. Add to that a reduced number of ships and heavier pressure to be at sea nearly 80% of the time to accomplish the same mission load and the system will break. Which is what we're seeing.
