And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Santa Fe 3751 Highballing down the middle of the San Bernardino Freeway
That's one big hunk of iron roaring along with the cars. A little too much iron in motion that close, if you ask me.
I've driven down that same freeway next to the trains more than once. Never next to a locomotive that cool. 3751 is in a class of its own. And it's part of living in a concrete jungle
I wonder if there weren't a BUNCH of fender benders along that highway?
I'm certain that if I'd been driving, I'd have been staring at the choo choo train instead of paying attention to the traffic around me.
Years ago, I was a volunteer firefighter/EMT for North Salt Lake City, Utah, and whenever the Union Pacific "Big Boy" roared through, there were ALWAYS brush fires next to the tracks.
Our attack truck had a bucket seat mounted on the right front fender for a firefighter to strap himself in, and hold the nozzle of a hose, so he could hit the flames, as the truck drove alongside of the burning vegetation.

ReplyDeleteSo very cool and impressive. I'd love to see one of those in motion in person.
ReplyDeleteIsn't she magnificent? A Baldwin 4-8-4 built in 1927. Thanks for posting CW!
ReplyDeleteThat's just plain wonderful Cee Dub! And a '63 pale blue Suburban as chase vehicle? What a great trip in the Wayback Machine!
