And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Oddly enough, my grandfather told this story: As a young man he lived near a Piute tribe and he'd collect broken alarm clocks from town and buy them for pennies, selling them to the Piutes, who only wanted the alarm to ring. My grandfather, being a clever boy, could fix the alarms if broken. If the clock spring was over-wound, it would break and they never had replacement springs. The alarm was a different matter.
Noble features. Is that a McKinley button on his jacket?!

ReplyDeleteIt appears they told time too, or is that a watch fob to his medicine pouch?
