In the late 50s and maybe early 60s we heard sonic booms almost EVERY day.bart simpsonsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01840436089787700707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-24102615364678836302020-02-23T13:48:27.505-08:002020-02-23T13:48:27.505-08:00This is one of the two original YF-102 prototypes ...This is one of the two original YF-102 prototypes built without the area-ruled fuselage.TwoDogshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06400034283241205713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-65365501708040945762020-02-23T11:14:01.590-08:002020-02-23T11:14:01.590-08:00Area ruling was used on the F-102A production vers...Area ruling was used on the F-102A production version and it exceeded mach 1.2. It was only the original YF-102s that were subsonic. A redesign produced the YF-102A which eventually went into production.Larryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13296988746956477216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-56596580511973658212020-02-23T07:23:43.994-08:002020-02-23T07:23:43.994-08:00The F-102 may have been "optimized for speed,...The F-102 may have been "optimized for speed," but it wasn't fast. They couldn't even get it through the Mach. It remained for aerodynamicist Richard Whitcomb to come up with Area Rule, which produced the nearly identical-looking F-106. The -106 turned out to be a Mach 2 aircraft and set a world speed record (at the time).Stephan Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13844243041552272458noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-91002473519012322372020-02-23T07:12:00.953-08:002020-02-23T07:12:00.953-08:00The F-102 and F-106 (and F-104) were the ready ale...The F-102 and F-106 (and F-104) were the ready alert aircraft in the US for a very long time.
