And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
OH, NO. Not in a million lifetimes. I can sorta understand the desire for adventure, but at some point, you have to see the danger in front of you and decide that you've gone far enough.
I believe that for a typical climbing season on Everest, there are 6 to 12 crevasses that all climbers must cross to get up the Khumbu Icefall to reach the higher camps. Apparently, some of the crevasses need up to 4 ladders as shown here that they tie end-to-end to span the gap. One more reason to avoid Everest altogether, as if there weren’t enough already.
Just go for it. You’ve traveled halfway across the world to get there. You knew there would be risks. Deadly risks. Death would likely come fast if it did come. Take a deep breath and make that 20 second journey across the ladder. The pride of accomplishment, of meeting the challenge! Versus a lifetime of regret for wimping out to play it safe.
The coward dies a thousand deaths, the hero but one. Get across there!
That's crazy. If it fails you are dead. "Ohh look, that guy fell down into the icey gulch, guess we should find another path".
ReplyDeleteNo safety rope? OSHA will not like that.
ReplyDeleteIf you’re into that much of an adrenaline rush, forgo the ladder and take the land bridge on the left.
ReplyDeleteNFW!!!

ReplyDeleteI love how they just walk away after crossing.
