And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Incredible that this was conceived, engineered, manufactured and flown by a private citizen
We watch every launch we can, still amazing. Great to see the younger generation advancing high technology. No matter what anyone things of Elon Musk, he's a cool geek, and kids (20-40yr old) seem to love him. A dreamer that invents & creates - inspiring!
Several thousand private citizens. No one man built or operates this. Elon Musk is a genius...but he's just the conductor, without the rest of his "orchestra" he can't accomplish much.
Sounds like Obama, "You didn't build that". Without Musk, those thousands of talented individuals would never have come together as a team and accomplished this.
Contrary to popular belief, expertise in pretty much anything, is not resident in government it is in the private sector. Anyone that has ever worked government acquisition knows government style program management would get you fired in any private industry.
Elon has garnered quite the talented workforce, treated them with dignity, asked them to do things they did not know they had in them, essentially thru giving them free range within very specific goals and standards, what this created is what happened during the Gemini and Appollo era with much of the skilled workforce, a mentality where "It won't fail because if me" mentality, its where an anything is possible culture develops and becomes very anti-fragile, a workforce which knows pride in place and achievement, requires minimal but very strong leadership that practices a hands off culture and recognizes talent and how to delegate. The proof is in the results, quite spectacular by orders of magnitude, a place thinking outside the box reigns supreme. It appears this is the style Musk has employed in all his ventures, all his companies are over achieving entities, thoroughly successful, while producing cutting edge products. Its truly remarkable in every sense. SpaceX has left the rest of aerospace in the dust, the legacy corporate aerospace industry is in trouble in that sense, and now, the Russians are pulling rabbits out of their hats with military technology thats is generations beyond any and all, their aerospace is no joke either. Amazing time to witness, and its in its infancy in relative terms. Having such heavy lift capacity in such numbers in such time frames at before unimaginable cost efficiencies, ie hundreds of dollars per kilo to orbit, but moreso the pure heavy lift capability of SuperHeavy, (look what just Falcon has done), can anyone foresee what effect this has on future of off Earth human activity. Its the great stepping stone that was truly required, that without not much was ever going to happen, but far more critically it makes permanent, sustainable human presence, industrial scale activity, not only possible but profitable, or at least a break even proposition in its infancy. Legacy aerospace had the time the money, the resources, the engineering, the skilled labor, it had everything learned thru the manned space program of 3 decades, incredible treasure transformed into this tangible thing, that was suddenly squandered, it real dropped the ball, it blew it. I spent my 46 year career as a aerospace welder/fitter/inspector, and to my dismay corporate greed strip mined this incredible national treasure down to the fucking bone, all for the last penny could be squeezed from it, leaving a broken bankrupt landscape that as a wage worker it was just able to bring home a living wage, things did begin to improve, as they had no choice, it had bled too much skill and knowledge, but still the damage was done. Then along comes SpaceX. They threw out the old aerospace standards, from FOD to PPP's, QP became the domain of everyone, ingrained if you want, in place on the floor hands on engineering, (not dissimilar to Kelly Johnson's Skunk Works engineering staff with its no door in the frame/on the floor style, and their incredible achievements from SR71 to F117), they did not break the molds they created the special things which make all things possible, most of all it made those within believe in what they are doing, that everyone was part and parcel of it. Spectacular results, its only just begun too.
What a magnificent structure of engineering excellence and beauty. I grew up watching the space program from the first Mercury flights, through many heartbreaking disasters to this Made in America beautiful flight hardware. Still always and will be proud to be an American!
Well Star Wars 1.0 is about to kick off anyway. After the Kessler event chain reaction kicks off there will be no more of this outer space nonsense in LEO.

ReplyDeleteThe guy knows how to get shit done.
ReplyDeleteExcept for uncovering waste in govt spending. Then being hamstrung to do anything about it. Voat harder retards. Newz at 11:00.
ReplyDeleteHis position only allowed him time to uncover and train young geeks.
DeleteAnd a team of the most dedicated and intelligent employees. Something that NASA decided was no longer necessary to have.
ReplyDeleteYep!

ReplyDeleteWell DUH!
DeleteSounds like Obama, "You didn't build that". Without Musk, those thousands of talented individuals would never have come together as a team and accomplished this.
DeleteThis is amazing! He's a doer & we're living in great time!
ReplyDeleteBrbs are not real.

ReplyDeleteEverything is made by private citizens. Government doesn't make anything except laws and bureaucracy. It's all contracted out.
ReplyDeleteThe amazing thing is that it was paid for by a private citizen.
This is what Capitalism bring us.
ReplyDeleteCommunism won't ever bring you anything like this.
Fffttt, the Earth is flat. Where's it going to go, the other side of the 2 dimensional circle? :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, wouldn't you like to know how many turtles there are underneath the disk?

*ahem* Spruce Goose. I know, short-lived, but proved a point.
