'Death Dealer IV' study by Frank Frazetta.

  1. I think the thing that I find most intriguing about Mr Frazettas work (aside from the voluptuous women!) was that there was ALWAYS a story in every drawing or painting.
EVERY one looks like a single frame captured right in the middle of something happening. Where most other artists do stills, Frazetta captured movement, even when the characters are stationary.
Boris Vallejo is a good example of what I mean.
While Mr Vallejos work is amazing and his talent unquestionable, he doesn't capture the "action" or "story" of a scene. Most of his characters look "posed" to my eye.
We lost quite a lot when Frazetta passed away.
I highly recommend "Frazetta: Painting with Fire", a 2003 documentary about the man, his work, and his family. Amazing stuff.

  2. Never heard of Frazetta before, but took a time out to review some of his work. Guess I'll take down my old Hendrix poster and put up one of his. Better reflection of my current attitude.

  3. If you like Frazetta and his work, check out his granddaughter Sara's youtube channel "Frazetta Girls" Bonus: she's a smokeshow and could easily have been one of his models.

  5. You didn't even need to say "Frazetta." Such a distinctive style.
