And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I remember those days when the attendant would open your trunk, then stand in that space between the trunk lid and back seat to service your single rear speaker.
Most 1960s cars were crapola. You had to check water in the battery, motor oil, transmiussion fluid, brake fluid, belt wear, etc. under the hood while filling up. Squeegee front & rear windows, wipe outdoor rear view mirrors. For good measure, shake out the floor mats and whisk broom the carpeting..
Take the credit card inside and run it through the mechanical doohickey, take it out for signature. J.E. Broyhill gve a cigar to whomever filled his Caddy up.
It's a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie Skyliner retractible hardtop. I grew up in my dad's gas station in the 1050s and could name just about any 30s, 40s or 50s car at a glance.
Anon602. The Skyliner "trunk" opened from the front so the top could fold into the trunk. BTW- There was a small space even with the roof stored to put a small package(about the size of a carry-on bag).

ReplyDeleteAI crap
ReplyDeleteCould be. Researching the orange ball sign, seems to have first been created in 1962
DeleteNot even filling the tank. Gas cap location on that Ford is behind the rear license plate. The hose won't reach.
DeleteAI crap. Could have been a great photo with real men, machines and real estate. Why bother posting this garbage?
ReplyDeleteOne man's "garbage" is another man's treasure. Different strokes for different folks.
DeleteRegardless of the AI, I still find it crazy it's illegal to pump your own gas in New Joisey.
ReplyDeleteAnd Oregon. Theoretically to "make jobs for low income people". Pisses me off, too. They always screw something up.
DeleteI think for that time period the CA license plate was black numbers on white background.
ReplyDeleteYellow background until 60s
DeleteAnd only 6 characters.
DeleteI'm so old, when I worked at a gas station in high school, they didn't have squeegee's, it was blue paper towels and squirt bottles.
ReplyDeleteYup, remember those blue towels and squirt bottles as well! Pumping gas was good job for a teen in the 1960's.
Deletethe guy stand ing between the trunk lid and rear seat LOL

and adjust those valves, especially the exhaust valve clearance, or you'd be sorry!
DeleteBroyhill residence wasn't far from our "other side" home. One year my brother made a little holiday money by raiding JEB's stand of pine trees.
ReplyDeleteSo what make and model is the car? AI?

DeleteI agree with the AI comments, no badge on hood or side panels. Pontiac or Chevy or Olds would be prominent back then
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the “full service” scene in the movie LA Story.
ReplyDeleteWhere’s the rubber hose bell ringer and the S&H Green Stamp sign? Hummmmm
