  1. There's nothing kooky about an Avanti.

  2. Nice, but I’d rather have a 57 Packard with the Paxton blower.

    1. Why not an Avanti with the Paxton blower?

  4. The R3 version with the supercharged 289 V8 (not to be confused with Ford's 289 V8) went over 170mph at Bonneville. Studebaker claimed it was the fastest production car in the world.

  5. Andy Granitelli would stop into the grocery store where I worked part time as a stock boy. would rush through the store in his shiny silk suit. I'd go out and collect carts so I could watch him drive off in his gold metalflake Avanti , stomping on 2nd gear!

  9. And everyone wanted one back in the day. Now it just looks quaint, and odd.

  10. I had a friend in Redding, CA that owned two of them. He restored a Studebaker Commander.

  11. I understand that if Studebaker would have come out with the Avanti a few years earlier, they might still be in business today.
