And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The R3 version with the supercharged 289 V8 (not to be confused with Ford's 289 V8) went over 170mph at Bonneville. Studebaker claimed it was the fastest production car in the world. Al_in_Ottawa
Andy Granitelli would stop into the grocery store where I worked part time as a stock boy. would rush through the store in his shiny silk suit. I'd go out and collect carts so I could watch him drive off in his gold metalflake Avanti , stomping on 2nd gear!
There's nothing kooky about an Avanti.

ReplyDeleteAnd everyone wanted one back in the day. Now it just looks quaint, and odd.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend in Redding, CA that owned two of them. He restored a Studebaker Commander.
ReplyDeleteI understand that if Studebaker would have come out with the Avanti a few years earlier, they might still be in business today.
ReplyDeletethis car always brings out the controversy
