And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
On an Arizona elk hunting trip, noticed many "desert rat" homesteads, they all where off grid, most had a water system using large above ground plastic tanks usually set high as possible, probably for the head height. These properties looked serene, most totally isolated from neighbors, almost made me want to relocate, and set up out in the high desert, with the fine all round weather, the small towns have great culture and resources, I can understand why folks like it there, mild winters, even at the higher altitudes, doesn't take much to get privacy what with the lay of the hilly terrain and off road road network, providing excellent access. Great place. Though water resources must be a challenge, solar resources are first class so off grid is a no brainer. The hinting is world class too, the elk and deer population is high enough to fill the freezer with out much effort.
When I lived in Williams, AZ there was a water station, like a gas station only for water. People would come in with big plastic tanks on trailers to fill up. Water was 400 ft down at $40 per ft through volcanic rock.
While not as much of an architectural digest look, my place is in the high desert with no saguaro. We do have the occasional elk and deer, as well as mountain lion and bobcat. We are in a box canyon with spectacular sunsets and peace.
Long day of Rural driving, girlfriend & I decided to just 'pull off the road & camp'. Beautiful night, stars, couple of drinks, could hear the wildlife in the distance. Fell asleep... Woke up to a Coyote growling! Jumped in the car, wide awake and headed down the road!

I can't tell if this old fart has a newspaper or a laptop on his lap. I kinda hope that it's a hard copy of a local newspaper.
