Oh, right you are, I’m sure. Even without the steel and glass sail on top, the F250 in 1963 probably got 10 to 15 MPG, depending on the engine size and carb setup. My 1963 Chrysler 300 with a 383, and a much more aerodynamic shape, managed 8-10 MPG around town and 12-13 on the highway. No Detroit vehicle built in 1963 was built for fuel efficiency.
Average gas price in 1963 was $0.30 which is approx $3.15 in today's dollars. However the overall cost of living was a lot lower then, particularly housing.
