I'm thinking they filmed this in reverse.

  1. You can just catch the little ramp that the front car runs up before the crash

  2. It does look like the front bumper is too high before the impact. The accident car would have to accelerate very quickly in reverse to match speed with the other car. Maybe it was pulled backwards off the ramp?

    1. I think if shot in reverse, the car was pulled from offscreen. But no neck snap of the driver and do you really think a woman driving in reverse?

  3. Back then they'd crash an airplane into a tree or house to get the shot. WC Fields was famous for wrecking automobiles. Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin would destroy houses (not set built). Even the Little Rascals featured crashing cars or panel vans through fences or into buildings.
I think the smippet shown here is from a Harold Lloyd flick.

  4. Ah, the old tree in the middle of the freaking road. I love that. There's several small towns around here that still have that. WTH is wrong with the road crews? Don't bother chopping it down, just pour asphalt around it. I'm sure people will drive around it, no problem!

    1. Carmel Calif has a law agains't cutting trees down in the road. Also women can't wear high heels on the sidewalks.

  5. Early use of stop motion. Shoot one frame at a time. I think this is so because of the herky jerky action.
