Macy’s employee Mike Reynolds, 53, slides from the 19th to the ground floor on package chutes before Christmas, ca. 1940s, to ensure that no package gets stuck. Reynolds had been doing this for 26 years when the picture was taken, slid about 2 miles a week, and wore out a pair of overalls every six weeks.
What a way to make a living…

ReplyDeleteJust imagine what it would be like if everybody took their jobs seriously.?
ReplyDeleteBefore OSHA!
ReplyDeleteWhy is there a brown skid mark on my package?
ReplyDeleteHopefully Macy's supplied the overalls and he didn't have to replace them out of pocket.
ReplyDeleteDude! Earned your paycheck! Must of been by accident, the job position began.
ReplyDeletereminds me of boot camps "slide for life".
ReplyDeleteI worked for several different major department stores in the 1970's and 1980's... before the internet and Amazon. It was pretty terrific employment back when life was kinder and simpler.
