And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Really, a very modern looking design

So, the difference between grave robber and archeologist is only a matter of time? Even then, the arch is taking that which isn't theirs. But the things go to a museum, or maybe to the art market.
Does anyone think that the digs are so well cataloged that pieces don't find their way to ones personal possession?
You are not wrong. There was some country, can't remember which at the moment, that only allowed archeologists to remove items from graves or tombs to be measured and photographed. Then the items were returned to where they came from and the tomb sealed. Might have been Thailand.
In archeology you measure & record so you can make an educated guess about the history surrounding what you've found, then you take it! Grave robbers/pot hunters don't need the academic part of that, they just take it.
Not sure I'd say the design's modern. Rather, I'd say that the archetypical straight sword has been around for a very long time and it's hard to improve on. (Other than metallurgy. But we're not talking about that aspect, I think.)
