And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Actually it wasn’t very fast. Its engines were underpowered and it didn’t achieve its expected performance. But it was cool looking. It’s major contribution was the stubby wing which found its way on the F-104
It was a hanger queen apparently and amassed few flight hours. Sadly, not unusual in its day in that its aerodynamics were well ahead of turbojet technology so it never got to stretch its legs.
Amazing those small wings can hold it up. I built a glider once but it was out of blue foam board on a jobsite at break. 16d nail for nose weight. Flew pretty good off the ridge of a 3 story house in
One of the first Revell models I put together was this X-3, it was so cool looking hanging from the ceiling. Eventually built all the X plane models. I think Revell was really a super high quality product, attention to detail made them so worth building, its where my snow shoveling and leave raking money went many times.
Look at the contrast between the vehicle designs and that winged syringe.
ReplyDeletethought the same thing

DeleteDouglas X-3. Currently on display at Wright-Patterson.
ReplyDeleteThat tail design is a hallmark of Douglas - you see it in A-26, Phantom, Banshee, Phantom II (F-4), etc.
