    2. That's why they're not fun for squirrels.

  2. My Mark III was impossible to clean. Traded it for a Mark IV. Love it.

    1. The Mark IV fixed the fifty-year problem with their far-beyond-retarded disassembly construction.

But all of them shoot great.

    2. if you are smart enough to fit together Legos, you can clean a Mark 1-3 pretty easily. Disassembly is easy, reassembly is easy IF YOU DO THE REQUIRES STEPS at the right time. I know 12 year old GIRLS that can do it right every time. If you can't you need help.....Or maybe you aren't smart enough to do things like drive, or use a fork properly.
Sorry, it just ain't that hard to do. It just isn't idiot proof.

    3. Or you could just make friends with some 12-year-old girls.

    4. NO, you can't make friends with 12 year old girls anymore, the Demoncrat's have eff'd that up! In 1995, I went to a machine gun shoot just east of Yuma (by invitation only) and there was a 10-12 year old girl that had a Mkll, Target, stainless, with her, it shot like a laser, for me, it shot pretty good. It's embarrassing to get beat by up a little girl in front of all your shooting buddies...and strangers.
I learned my lesson, I've been practicing and if I ever run into that 40+ year old lady, I'll show her! With my Mklll, 22/45!...maybe.

  3. I had a Mark II. I had to take it to a gunsmith the first time I took it apart. I got rid of it because it was a PIA to clean.

  4. Item 34, hammer strut, in the parts breakdown . gets jammed between two pins. first thing you do is get on Youtube and look up how to fix that problem

  5. Nice pistol. Try a Colt Woodsman Match Target.

    1. No, they're worth a thousand plus, maybe a lot of plus. If anything happens to it, you have to commit suicide. My Ruger 22/45, Target shoots as good or better. If something happens to it, I can get another one tomorrow for $350-450...but then, I'm broke.

  6. I have one in blue steel with the bull barrel as shown and one with the light 4" barrel. I have lost count of the number of people that I have introduced to handgunning with those 2.

  7. On my wish list. Been messing with Browning Campers for years! Happily but longing…

    1. Get the 22/45 with the threaded barrel.

  8. After fighting to reassemble my Mk II, I now clean it by removing the grips, spraying a solvent into the works, shake it out, clean the barrel, oil it, and put the grips back on. Easy peasy, and I never have to disassemble it again.

    1. They say that with modern powders, you put more wear into the gun disassembling it than shooting it.

  9. Oh, I also polished the tiny feed ramp, that helps it cycle a lot.

  10. Had one, prefer our Browning Buckmarks,

  11. Have the Government Target model. Six+7/8" ? Boringly accurate. Thinking of milling the bull barrel for a bit less weight. Was told that the bore will change dimension if the outer gets slotted to any real amount.

    1. I had an old gunsmith, slad side my Mklll, 5" bull barrel, 22/45. I did it for weight reduction and easier holster fit. He said reducing the diameter on my AR barrel might warp it, so refused, but slab siding the 22/45 was no sweat. He found the Ruger dimensions and duplicated it. It shoots the same. Cost me $50, 4 years ago.

  12. Like the MarkVI over the earlier Luger style grip. Makes a dandy pistol for a suppressor. Piff. Piff. Piff. Though got the little KelTec 16 round auto, weighs about as much as a potato chip, even comes with 3 magazines, $177 plus tax, shoots everything no FTF's so far. The Ruger feels like a 1911 now.

    1. A suppressor and a laser or red dot makes the Government models a survival gun, or a Hush Puppy, with equal panache.

  13. Had a Mark II. Loved it but, I found the bull barrel made the gun nose heavy. They offered a middle size bull barrel that was about half way between the standard barrel and the bull. I think that was better balanced and I wish I had bought that one. I will admit disassembling the weapon was tricky but once I got the knack of it I could do it easily. Agreed, not the best design but never had any issues with it.

  14. I agree the old takedown design is terrible. I just can't justify a MK IV since I have 2 MK IIIs already.

  15. Have a Mark 1. after what I have read I am scared to clean it.

    1. Don't be, Youtube is your friend. I've lost so many brain cells, I have to watch a tutorial every time. It really is easy, ya just have to tilt it the right way, during the reassembly process.

  16. Some of y'all need to turn in your man card.
Over 50 years ago, as a 20 yo, a buddy brought his Mk1 to me in pieces in a shoebox. I had never touched one before, no instructions, no Google. I reassembled it with just a basic understanding of firearms and a bit of mechanical aptitude. Yes it was a bit tricky but not so awful that the second time wouldn't be a lot better.

    1. FUCK YOU!!!!...er, I mean, uh, some of us can't afford man cards, or brain cells.

    2. And some of us just prefer guns that reassemble more easily that the early models.
      Needlessly hard is stupid.
Even Ruger finally agreed with that.

  17. I bought a M2 back in’83. The first reassembly was difficult. After that, not so much. It’s been a great shooter. I thought about cutting the barrel down to 2” and thread it for a suppressor, but couldn’t bring myself to do that. Purchased a Browning Buckmark Tactical instead. It’s also a great shooter and kind on the ears. Hopefully ATF will circle the bowl and make suppressor access over the counter.

    1. Also a great hunter. I put a Chinesium red/green dot with 4 reticle choices on mine, but it made way too easy to hit with. Took it off to train for my Glock and 1911.

  19. Pain in the arse to put together after cleaning. Drives me insane

  20. The older ones are great, the newer ones with the magazine lock and the loaded chamber indicator are garbage, and heaven help you if you are dumb enough to take it apart to clean it, 3 hours of youtube lessons and you might be able to put it back together, now I just spray it with brake cleaner and let it dry and dribble some oil down inside . if i bother to clean it at all.

with the magazine lockout, its possible to insert the mag facing the wrong direction, and it will NOT come back out , you have to purchase a special slim jim tool to remove it and it will destroy the magazine in the process,

get the mk2 that doesnt have all the nanny safety crap.

love mine though, If I got something to prop it on, I can hit better with it than a 10/22 rifle.
