William Alchesay, born May 17, 1853 in Arizona, died August 6, 1928 in Northfork, Arizona. He was a Chief of the White Mountain Apache, an Apache Scout, and General George Crooks aide. He was adviser to Indian Agents and to President Grover Cleveland. He also received the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Apache Wars. He finally convinced Geronimo to surrender, and remained friends with Geronimo until his death. Al-che-say was buried at Fort Apache Rez in Whiteriver, Arizona.
