This wasn't a real problem for the aircraft as both had the same canopy melt temp.@ 800Ft AGL @ SL. After the U-2 shoot down in the 50's they were tasked with high speed low level attacks with multi megaton H-bombs, something that the 1450 MPH @ 370000 feet B-58 was ill suited to do. Shortly after that the still mostly new B-58's and F-102's were quietly sent to the "bone yard"(NASA(CIA) kept some of both aircraft for "training" into the 70's )---Ray Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-64501151614726295132016-02-01T06:14:14.557-08:002016-02-01T06:14:14.557-08:00Interestingly, according to this article the F-102...Interestingly, according to this article the F-102 was used by B-58 pilots for training as it had similar characteristics as the Hustler, but was cheaper to operate.juvathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09096708575138552532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-58963171087816307312016-02-01T05:19:00.835-08:002016-02-01T05:19:00.835-08:00Pretty sure that's a F-102 or F-106. The B-58 was much bigger and had engine nacelles on the wings instead of intakes on the fuselage.juvathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09096708575138552532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-81430975790846837362016-02-01T04:13:01.178-08:002016-02-01T04:13:01.178-08:00A very serious aircraft.
