Better to just smash them and harvest the detritus to make large, spinning habitats ala the Bishop Ring (http://www.orionsarm.com/eg-article/460db7f55a8d3).

The design described at that link assumes large-scale manufacturing of Buckytubes, which we can't do right now. I suspect that a nested-ring design *could* be built with current materials tech, though the economics aren't there yet. Nested rings would allow for a thick, non-rotating outer ring which would serve to support the spinning inner ring in which people would live.

I doubt I'll live to see such things though, alas:-(.jabrwokhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14537636497352864636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-24853252260066742132017-05-11T07:21:51.495-07:002017-05-11T07:21:51.495-07:00Perhaps the purpose of all the searching for ET li...Perhaps the purpose of all the searching for ET life is to disprove, once and for all, the Bible?
http://www.reasons.org/blogs/impact-events/would-discovering-aliens-disprove-christianityEd Longhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04391996432750397534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-16216553325306218542017-05-11T06:59:23.750-07:002017-05-11T06:59:23.750-07:00Actually the "push" for a Mars colony is...Actually the "push" for a Mars colony is more about a penal colony to rid earth of its "undesirable excess populace" than it is anything else. Once established you would house the bulk of your workforce where they work. The Mines. They would be forced to mine for water. Mine for ore's to make anything they must have. Mine for "cubic" to make hydroponics. Mine for living space. Basic slave labor for the first century or more. Factory/smelters/power stations on "top" with the classes divided by how "low" you live, and NO ONE would do it willingly. The death toll would be horrific but as it would all be convict labor...none of the people on earth would care...And "cost" wouldn't be an issue for the "elite" to be rid of the poor and criminal. They could send any number on a one way trip with little care for their fate, and if by some chance they survived and had issue, why them just exploit whatever was found. Like a nation did with a place called Australia for 200 years.---Ray Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533651942397782565.post-27130757440493343072017-05-11T06:31:01.718-07:002017-05-11T06:31:01.718-07:00That was a good review of the inconvenient truth. ...That was a good review of the inconvenient truth.
