Charles Nungesser, French WW1 Ace with his medals and his Nieuport 17 plane. He holds the record for the most decorated Croix de Guerre medal, with 28 palms and two stars.

  2. The Nungesser Niewport is now in the collection of the Reinbeck Museum in NY. Back in the mid 80s I had the fortune of seeing it fly for the first time since it was sold by Nungesser to finance L'osieau Blanc, his stab at the Ortieg prize. It is claimed his remains, those of his partner Francois Coli and L'oiseau Blanc are somewhere in the woods around the Machias area of Maine.
