That can't be the right way to do it

  1. de Havilland Mosquito. They made a special carrier adapted Torpedo Bomber version with folding wingtips.

    4 x 20mm cannon in the nose
2 x 500lb bombs in the bomb bay
    1 centerline slung standard torpedo
    8 x 60lb rockets (4 under each wing)

A great improvement over the Brit's other torpedo bomber, the Fairley Swordfish (a biplane that was sooooooo slow that German anti-aircraft systems couldn't correctly target it.

    1. DH 103 Sea Hornet, the major visual cues are the four bladed props and the canopy with the armoured windshield. To my knowledge the Mosquito was only landed on an aircraft carrier by test pilot, Eric "Winkle" Brown and was judged unsuitable for carrier ops. The Sea Hornet had contra-rotating props and over 2,000hp per engine so it was more responsive and forgiving than the Mosquito.

In defense of the Swordfish it was the ultimate biplane, it embodied every lesson that had been learned in the previous 30 years. It was also capable of carrier operations in seas and winds that would keep other airplanes in the hangar.

  2. Me thinks Sea Hornet in a bind rather than a Mosquito.

    1. You are right. Forgot about the Hornet evolution of the Mosquito. I'll take lesser known aircraft for $1,000...
