Huge waves slam the shore of Northern Lake Superior.

  1. I expected to hear "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (Lightfoot) playing in the background.

The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy

  3. I have been there a few times. Water temps are in the 40's mid summer.

  4. Cold country. Once spent the nght in White River and the temperature dropped to -40 celsius. Beautiful country but if you go there take a sweater

    1. And, as we all know, -40C is the same as -40F. And, no to another commenter, the summer water temp is not 40 degrees, at least not at the surface.

  5. We were there two and a half weeks ago, but caught it on a calm day.
    It was chilly but clear.

  6. I was just there, north of Duluth. I think this may be Beaver Bay. Pretty country, great foliage colors. We left the area one day before this gale blew up, it was just getting started as we left Duluth. Apparently the park near the vertical lift bridge (historic landmark)downtown got completely flooded. 20 ft waves out in the open water. Awesome.

  9. The tops of those cliffs are approximately 100 feet above the water level.
Camera's shrink the visual size of the waves.
    A picture of a 15 footer looks like a 8 footer.
And these waves are larger than 15 feet.

  10. One more thing, when those waves are hitting the cliff, you can feel the rock move.
Doesn't move much, but there is a felt vibration.
