Might be a good investment if you're going into the woods, given recent events.

    1. Or my Freedom Arms 454 Casull. Amazingly, the bear spray is quite effective, they say, as it wipes out the bear's already poor eyesight and makes him/her quit thinking about you and start thinking about how to make the pain stop.

Best plan, both 454 Casull and bear spray, and be locked and loaded when messing with something a bear might want.

  3. They also say putting bells on yourself will alert the bears you are in the area so they aren't surprised and attack you. They can then identify bear scat by having a red color, peppery smell and including bells. (Yea, I know it's an old joke!)

  4. I don't know that allowing a bear within spray range would be part of my strategy.

  5. An Atchisson AA12 auto shotgun with drum mag. might be slightly more effective and wont give the bear lasting pain....

  6. I have used this stuff, in Ontario, on a small black bear that was too persistent. Be advised, that once you pull the trigger, the can empties completely in seconds, so be prepared to push said trigger to the off position if you do not want to empty the can...........

    1. Did it work? I guess so, you're still here to tell us about it!

  7. Will this work on the more savage beasts that one might encounter in San Francisco CA or Portland OR?

By all accounts, they are more vicious than the average bear, and not nearly as smart!

  8. kept a can of this type of product in the truck for "emergencies". does a number on aggressive asshats coming at me at stoplights and stopsigns. Homeless my ass. west denver has its share of them.
Bears? best view is the bears backside as we both pass over the ridge lines in opposite directions. done that once...

  9. Whether or not bear spray works is a decision totally up to the bear. If it decides the meal is important enough it WILL ignore the spray and attack. And bears do not rely on eyesight...they rely also on smell and hearing..and pepper spray has zero effect on hearing. Traveling unarmed in bear country is idiotic. Traveling alone even if armed is not recommended. Humans keep forgetting we are NOT at the top of the food chain.

  10. Carry a Flare Launcher at least one inch in diameter the flare should be enough to discourage an attack magnesium or phosphorus on fire should do the trick also you will not have to DNA test the Bear to see if it is the attacking bear
