This is interesting.

A wider viewpoint on this over at Bayou Renaissance Man is the source and well worth a read.

The Sikorsky S-97 Raider is a proposed high-speed scout and attack compound helicopter based on the Advancing Blade Concept (ABC), under development by Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky planned to offer it for the United States Army's Armed Aerial Scout program, along with other possible uses.

Looks like the proof of concept is well along in development.  Really cool stuff.

  1. Like the B2 flying wing and the "tilt rotor" that "concept" has been around in almost exactly that form since the end of WW2. I had picture books with full color drawings of all of those "concepts" when I was in the first grade..and I am in my 60's---Ray
