Spooky. The Midwest has tornados, the West Coast has earthquakes, and the Southeast Coast has hurricanes. It's always something.
Deep collapse crater at Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō. The crater is about 820 feet across. A day or so ago there was a 5.0 earthquake, and the crater collapsed, perhaps due to the draining away of the underlying lava.
I predict that the lava will return to the crater...and if that makes me prophetic, I'll take it. People who live in and around the volcano need to re-evaluate their long term plans. The outcome is predictably bad.
ReplyDeletePlanets are nasty places. That's why I want to emigrate to a nice, large (500km diameter) mini-ringworld space habitat. No earthquakes, no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no droughts.

Hurricanes are kind of a lazy man's disaster. Lots of warning - usually a few days - and there's really only one thing you need to do that can't be done months in advance: put up your shutters. You can get shutters that get put into place by pushing a button.
ReplyDeleteNo need to rush to the store for plywood. No need to rush to the grocery store. You can do everything in advance.
