If I had the means, I'd buy something like that and spend most of the rest of my life working on getting it in the air and barnstorming air shows.

  3. As recently as 1998 I have seen these wrecks on the island of Irian Jaya, now called Papua, Indonesia at a place called Babo. Old Jap air base. It's now a big LNG plant for the Muturi block, run by BP. Wasn't much left of them then, but they were still recognizable.

  4. One of the things I do miss from Kalifornia is the local air show. I could watch it comfortably from my front lawn. Not long ago, they had a restored A6M Zero and an F6F Hellcat, and the two of them put on a show. I don't remember now who the two fighters belonged to. I do know that the Planes of Fame Air Museum has the only completely original A6M in the world, still flying with its original Nakajima Sakae 31 engine.

I do remember the sound when they took off, the Zero first, followed by the Hellcat. The sound of the Hellcat's 2000 HP R-2800 left no doubt who had the most powerful engine.

I am always reminded of that when I what this---
