Don't mess with those, sister!

Remember what happened to Steve.

  1. The rays are pretty docile, but the tail barb is wicked. So an accidental contact when you're wading looking for shells and happen to disturb one under the sand and the ray scurries away is possible. I learned this when I was living in Marathon, Florida 30 years ago.

  2. When walking in the shallows, always drag your feet instead high stepping. When you brush them with your feet, they just take off.

  3. And Steve was done in 'cause he was looming over the ray from behind, who thought he was a tiger shark looking for a meal and took defensive measures. So the lass ought to be OK being below the ray.
