An 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck out at sea in the Gulf of Alaska just now

Tsunami warnings all called off for now, even though everyone got woke in the wee hours in concern one was on the way.   I guess it was worth it just in case, but there's going to be a bit of the "cry wolf" effect.

Now, they are warning about a possible tidal wave even in California.

Warnings in Kodiak, Alaska.  How'd you like to wake up to this?

.

Perhaps overwrought, but we'll see.  I'd move off the beach, just in case.

  1. There is some graphic footage (from Japan) of what a tsunami can do...yeah, best be cautious.

  2. All the "warnings" have been called off as of 7:00 AM Easter Standard Time Tuesday 1/23/2017. It looks like the Left coast dodged another bullet.

  3. I wouldn't live less than 30' above high tide in some locations. Maybe 50' if local geography resembles a funnel. Valdez, Alaska sure wished there'd been a tsunami warning back in 1964.
