The tips of the blades on Soviet subs curve so sharply they look broken

  1. They look like the singlets on modern aircraft.

  2. Back when I was in the Navy that photo would have been Top Secret No Forn. Also, that truck back there must be a toy, or that sub is YUGE!

  3. It's still top secret: anti-cavitation blades. That photo was taken without permission I'm sure.

  4. Some of those are broken. The counter-rotating anti-cavitation blades seem to be in much better shape.

  5. I remember the backlash against the Toshiba Corp. back in the 80's for selling 9 axis CNC milling machines to the Rooskis so they could build these.

  6. At one time in a Ship Repair Facility outdoor storage area there was a "submarine" propeller that was moved around on occasion and placed in different locations and at changing angles. It always seemed to be placed where it could be seen by satellite's.

  7. One more propeller story, worked on a tug with a 4 bladed 16 foot propeller that had the tips of the blades looking something like these Russian ones. Although our prop got its (9") curled tips from getting too close to a sub's hull. Only thing that happened to the sub was that our propeller took some of subs paint off. Bet it sounded interesting inside the sub though.
