  2. Amphibious floats are nice but not for people who make flying their business. The floats are not the problem. The retractable gear is. Airplanes have a rating called 'Useful Load'. It represents the amount of freight the craft can hold. Adding retractable gear to floats eats up useful load.

    My father flew PBY's during WWII. He said that the worst thing to happen to the PBY was the 5A version that had retractable gear as well as a seaplane hull.

      If you are going water / water then the amphibious floats are more than likely not worth having.
