And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I've been a passenger on the AMTRAK "California Zephyr" several times, going to and from Salt Lake City, Utah and Chicago, Illinois, where I would change trains and take the "Capitol Limited" to Washington, D.C., and from there, take the "Silver Meteor" to Fayetteville, North Carolina.
But, I've never taken the "California Zephyr" West of Salt Lake City, so never rode it over Donner Pass, although I've driven over it a few times in my old 1962 Chevy II Nova station wagon and in my old 1974 Ford Gran Torino.
