A weird experience

So Mrs. CW told me just now that it was "about time" for some more coffee, and I responded with  "It's about time, it's about space, it's about two men in the strangest place!"

She looked at me quizzically, so I told her it was the ditty to a TV program I watched as a kid about two astronauts that went back in time to the dinosaur age.  She had no memory of such a thing.

So, using the power of the internet, I looked it up.  It was indeed a comedy show on CBS that lasted for one season in 1966/67.  I was six years old, and apparently the opening line stuck in my juvenile brain, never to dislodge until this morning when my wife's random comment knocked it loose.

Does anyone else remember this show?

  1. I always remember it as "it's about time, it's about space, it's about time to slap your face".

  2. I don't remember it, but that's because I was in my 20's by that time. I do remember plenty from the early '50s, though, whether I want to or not.

One thing was a weekly television show called Your Hit Parade which featured the Top Ten songs in skits. They had to come up with something new to act out The Ballad of Davy Crockett every week for almost the whole of 1955. Talk about your earworms.

    1. D-a-v-y, D-a-v-y Crockett. King of the wild frontier! LOL! And yes, I had the coonskin cap...

  3. Lots of memories from the mid-sixties lack perspicuity. Sounds groovy though.

  4. I wasn't going to weigh in here but, yes, I actually do recall this television show and the theme music is a lot like the one from Gilligan's Island. They are among the memories I would like to purge but I'm sure they're all that I'll have left in my dotage. You'll find me in the park wearing a trench coat, feeding pigeons and humming "It's About Time".

    1. I remember the show; I was 13 at the time. And, if I'm going to be dealing with pigeons in my dotage, it'll be to the Tom Lehrer song, "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park."

  5. Yes, I definitely remember it. I loved that show. I was crushed when they canceled it. And yes, if someone says "It's about time" the rest of the song often pops into my head, despite it being 47 years ago!

    1. It had astronauts, dinosaurs and cave women. What's not to like?

  6. I was only five and yes, I remember it too, although I suspect I remember more of singing "it's about time, it's about space, it's about time I punched your face!" than the actual show.

  7. I remember it too even though I was nine. And I had forgotten about Race Bannon until Mike Pence became Veep.

  8. Yes, I remember the show and could probably sing the whole song. It was funny back in the sixties but would probably seem pretty lame today.

  10. I remember it, but I also remember another short lived show that had Imogene Coca in it. Does anyone remember "Grindl" from 1963? And the best show that had Joe E. Ross was "Car 54, Where Are You?"........................
