7.1 magnitude quake - 166km NE of Gisborne, New Zealand

Preliminary info here.  That's a pretty solid shake.


I wonder if there is any chance of a sympathetic temblor over here on the other side of the Ring of Fire, like what happens at Devil's Hole, Nevada, in Death Valley, where the water sloshes vigorously when earthquakes occur thousands of miles away.
