And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Quanah's house still stands at Fort Sill, OK. He knew when to make war and he knew when to make peace. His mother, had she lived, would have been proud of him.
I always love when you post these old pictures. They always tempt me to go through a box that I rescued from the trash when we cleaned out my grandparent's house back in the mid '60s. I have a few in my collection of family photos taken at the turn of the century up until the early twenties. A few of the really cool ones that came from Montana have people in cowboy hats and playing cards. One of the great, great uncles worked the mines out in Scotch Coulee until he left and bought a ranch in the area.
Yeah, most of mine aren't labeled either and pretty much everyone who knows anything about them are gone. I lucked out on a B-26 Marauder crew photo from WWII and Sarge over at Chant du Depart tracked it down and did a lengthly post on it detailing the fate of the crew. Blew me away..............
