A Dornier Do X in New York, 1931

The Dornier Do X was the largest, heaviest, and most powerful flying boat in the world when it was produced by the Dornier company of Germany in 1929.

The passengers, all nattily dressed.

The cockpit, very nautical.

  1. Much like the Pan Am Clippers when they came along, people dressed in suits and nice dresses for the journey.

  2. It looks heavy too. Proof that enough horse power can make a bulldozer fly.

  3. Look at all the seat width & elbow room

    1. The airline industry today runs on the philosophical questions, "How much misery will people endure to get from here to there? How much can we charge them? How man add-ons (like paying for every piece of luggage), paying for a cup of water, etc. can we heap on them?"
