Lemme brag a little

The boy has been working like a dog on his high school moot court team, and last night they won the entire enchilada.  Not only that, he got team MVP, and best speaker.  I'd hate to have to tell what I was doing at his age, but it wasn't arguing cases at the Third District Court of Appeals. Here's the blurb from the HS social media page:

CB placed first in the 2014 Sacramento County Moot Court Competition at last night’s final! After advancing through several rounds of competition on Saturday, Team CB (Austin Hart ’14, Victoria Linares ’15, Matthew Reade ’14, Sam Swanson ’14) presented oral arguments in the 3rd District Court of Appeals to three actual sitting justices and was then unanimously declared the champions. The justices applauded our students' knowledge of the source material and also their ability to maintain poise while being continually interrupted with difficult questions. One justice even mentioned that they handled the experience much better than most real attorneys. Sam Swanson ’14 also received an award as "Outstanding Speaker."

He's the kid on the far right.  The suit he's wearing cost him 8 dollars at Goodwill, and he borrowed the tie from me.  Smart and frugal!

  3. Congratulations! Moot court was a ton o' fun. Loved it when my brats did it. And they only didn't win the whole thing (although they did do very well each time).

    1. I made sure the dogs licked the gravy stains off the tie before I gave it to him.
